Skate shoes have long been a unisex product, from stealing our older brothers worn out pair to our first pair of Vans we had to make do with the boys versions in a market dominated by the big name brands for quite a while, DC. Vans, Gravis, DVS, Etnies, Emerica and many more with even Nike and Adidas getting in on the act.
They quickly wised up to the girls needs and now if you check out for example the Vans Online Store you will see hundreds of pairs of pink shoes, shoes with glitter, shoes with flowers, everything a girl might want.
Or is it? If we want to be girly we have heels, lots of them, but sometimes we want to run and jump, ride our bike, climb a tree, go for a skate, …and then why do we need to be any different from the boys.
Recently we had the pleasure of covering the Unicorn Girls Skate Jam in London, and as the name suggests it was a girls skateboard event and while we were there we were introduced to a new brand of footwear from Poland – Lando.
Ok, so when I say new, new to us, new to the UK. The company was actually started in Poland as a hobby almost 10 years ago by Tomasz Naryniecki and has been growing every since.
The idea was to create my own products to be original. To have something special, different from the corporate products you see everywhere. To be individual. It was important for me to build the company free and independent from the stress and pressure of the corporate game.
The result is strong, well built classic skate footwear, made in Europe with great style and at great prices.
