Natural Cosmetics: Homemade Beauty Products

Some homemade cosmetics tips and tricks that will help preserve your natural beauty, some years of your life and also your wallet.

We would like to turn our train of thought to those who think about the environment as much as their health and who would like to combine taking care of themselves with taking an eco perspective.

To do this is actually much simpler than you think, …we just forget about all the chemical cosmetics in our shopping cart and take our trolleys down to the local market. Why? Because natural beauty products are so much kinder and gentler to your body and it is without question cheaper to be naturally beautiful.

Hair

Lets start by nourishing and taking care of our hair with a banana mask.

Mix together half a bowl of mashed banana and a little grape-seed oil to a smooth paste, then apply to hair and cover with plastic film and then a towel.

Leave it for around 30 minutes (or an hour for the brave) and then wash off with a mild shampoo and rinse thoroughly.

You can repeat this once a week.

Face

Continuing with the banana, it is time to moisturise our face. This is the perfect mask to use after great day at the beach.

We mix together honey and mashed banana until it resembles a gluey paste and then apply evenly to the face. Allow to dry for five minutes and then rinse your face with warm water.

Exfoliate

Did you know that we can exfoliate our bodies by simply mixing a small glass of sugar or medium grain coffee together with 3-4 tablespoons of olive oil. Scrub onto your body and then rinse with warm water

Tan

To help tanning we can cover ourselves in a mix of a quarter of a litre or olive oil mixed with the juice of two lemons. Shaken well and then massaged into the skin this is an amazing tanning oil, ..but remember, the sun is dangerous and this does not offer any UV protection at all, so use with caution and don’t abuse.

Nails

Next we prepare a little nail revitalising serum.

All it takes is a table spoonful of olive oil mixed with a few drops of lemon essential oil and the juice of a lemon.

We then have to soak our nails in this for 10 minutes a day for a week (or more for the more motivated). Perfect to revitalise fragile and weak nails.

Strong Nails

After that you will probably want to learn how to keep her nail polish on longer.

We need to dip our nails in white wine vinegar for one minute and then allow to dry before painting. Then apply the first coat of polish, let it dry, and then the second to achieve the perfect results.
